Thought you would like to know……………
……Queen Joann returns to Hobart on the 6th
January.
…….A lovely group of Scarlett O’Hatters met at the Sorell
Fruit Farm on New Years Day. Everyone picked fruit, no real
headaches from celebrating the night before. Fruit ready to
pick included tasty cherries,
Loganberries, tayberries and silvanberries.
tayberries, are bit of a cross between a mulberry and a
raspberry.
We
sat out the back in the gazebo and once the plastic walls
were down to stop the wind, we had a lovely sunny spot to
partake in a delicious lunch and some ‘getting to know you
conversation’.

We
thank Karel Comptess Beau Chapeau for kindly bringing a
lovely bottle of champers for us to toast in the New Year –
thank you Karel. Also thank you to Goddess Barbara for
finding this great venue.
Sue - Princess Papillon, brought her photo album of her
overseas trip she did last year with her three daughters,
which was really nice. Also we had two guests join us,
Tawdry Audrey’s friend Kaye, who did an amazing job of
remembering all of our names and Vicki a friend of Lady
Laughalot Lyn and Madam May Bloom. Both guests enjoyed their
day with us. Would highly recommend and it is only 30
minutes from the CBD.
Have a happy and safe 2009

29th December 2008
Happy New Year Scarletts
This is the last Scarlett Scribbles for this year.
We have had a wonderful 2008, lots of visitors have attended to
see if Red Hatting is for them. We have to appreciate it is
not everyone’s cup of tea – though we seasoned hatters
wonder why. Visitors from other Chapters have joined us on
quite a few occasions, which is great, so don’t forget, you
too can meet with other chapters whilst travelling. Many new
friendships have been formed within our sisterhood and it
will be wonderful to get to know one another even more.
Maybe we could have a retreat type weekend, a time where we
can put our feet up and have a chat and get to know one
another better, or maybe read a book, or finish off a
project left sitting waiting for a spare few hours, or just
take a walk.
On behalf of Queen Joann - thank you to the ladies who have come
up with ideas and organised events during the year. All
those decadent lunch venues Goddess Barbara finds, the
wonderful dinner venues Baroness Butterfly Chris chooses.
The memorable day on Bruny Island that our Island Red Hat
sisters organised. Crown Princess Mary has been involved in
organising the Ozmas day in July, the Christmas Pageant and
the Christmas Picnic. Elaine Duchess of Duke Street,
organises a lovely luncheon at the Royal Yacht Club of
Tasmania. Tawdry Audrey for inviting us into her home for
the Italian Cook off. The most memorable day for Queen
Joann has to be her Coronation at Art Tart Rossy’s bush
venue and the crowning ceremony created by Vice Queen
Janine. Thank you to Queen Joann for keeping us informed
with her weekly newsletters and being our Queen. Lastly
thank you to each and everyone for your help, your support
and being a red hat lady.
We have come a long way since our CWA tea and scone days. You
could say we are “burning our aprons” as we don our red hat
and our big purple undies and go out to play and have fun.
I think having lunch or brunch is more decadent than going
out to dinner, as you really are taking time out from
the household chores and do something for “Moi” for a
change. We have some wonderful outings already planned, so
hopefully you will be able to come along and join in.
Some of the reasons we do what we do…….
·
Because we CAN!
-
Food. Fun.
Frivolity. Friendship. There needs to be a point???
-
To take life
less seriously.
-
To put more
fun into "the journey".
-
To keep an
open mind.
-
To enjoy
others.
-
The point is
to make new friends and have fun. Learn from others. Enjoy
each other's talents.
-
See different
places. There is so much ahead to look forward to and
experience!
Don’t forget Scarlett O’Hatters is your chapter and your input by
way of event ideas and organising the event will be
gratefully received. Just check the diary of events before
setting a date and discuss with Queen Joann, I am sure she
will be pleased if you come up with some new ideas or even
old ideas recycled.
With 2009 upon us, take time to reflect on year gone and think
about what changes you will be making for the new year.
Think about your health, because if you are not healthy you
will not be able to enjoy all the fun things red hatting
will be offering this coming year. Go and have a check up
with your doctor as a few of our ladies have done and have
been able to take action before it becomes a major
problem. Don’t forget to watch out where you are going, we
do not want anymore broken arms or hips this year.

Saturday December 13th
Our
Christmas Picnic Party
at the
Botanical
Gardens.
Crown Princess Mary’s Plan ‘B’ worked wonderfully, she and The
Blue None Phyllis arrived early and put dibs on the new
venue, then Mary went and waited at the Lower Domain
entrance to redirect everyone. Tucked away in the Wombat Hut
at the Cornelian Bay end of the Botanical Gardens, we
enjoyed our Christmas Picnic. Once everyone had arrived
with their little bit of sunshine, there was enough to keep
away the rain for a few hours. I think we were all girl
guides in days gone by, and were “prepared” what ever the
weather. Some wonderful Christmas hats were created with
baubles and bows and added to the festive spirit.
Harry’s catering did a really good job with the savoury picnic,
bottles of wine were shared and tasted, there was lots of
chattering and giggles. We welcomed several of the newer
members Kate McQ, Cheryl L Lady Chat-a-Lot, and visitors
Susan, Helen and Tricia.
The invalid corner was taken up by Cheryl B on her crutches,
Barbara G, still nursing her arm and Penny from Heaven
taking it easy ready to go back to hospital this week.
The Blue None and Crown Princess Mary handed around the Secret
Santa parcels, I think I saw a bottle of wine and some drink
coasters, body lotions, a gorgeous little change purse,
everyone receiving a parcel to take home to enjoy. We
managed to sing one Christmas Carol before playing the games
Crown Princess Mary organised. Now, have you ever tried the
egg and spoon race – substituted with cotton balls and
plastic spoons, not easy but the purple team seemed find the
knack quicker than the red team and were rewarded with a
little chocolate balls. The next game was even more
hilarious, soccer – with a cucumber in a stocking as the
bat, (supposed to be tied around the waist, we would
have been there all day trying to hit the ball in this
fashion – and you can imagine what it looked like) and a
small beach ball of no particular colour, played in relay
style, lots of laughs and again the purple team won, they
were the more sporting minded team and the red team were the
gigglers I think.
Left behind at Christmas Picnic

Apologies
to the lady who asked me to pass on that Spotlight were having a
haberdashery sale on Saturday and Sunday last weekend – you
might get some left overs if you would like to check it
out. Also noted that Big W have quite a bit of purple
clothing amongst their racks.

Phyllis The Blue None is going to have a sea change so to speak. We
wish her well in her new life and hope she will be able to
make time to have a farewell lunch with us before she
leaves. For those who have met Phyllis you will agree, she
has made an impact on we red hat ladies, and we will miss
her vibrant, happy, personality. Thank you Phyllis for being
a wonderful member.
Queen Joann, returns in early January, in time to join us at the Farm
Gate luncheon at Kettering. I have already let Joann know I
will be relinquishing my title as Vice Queen. I will still
be an active member of the Scarlett O’Hatters, but will
enjoy it from a back seat.
I will be travelling more in 2009, especially to WA as my daughter
and her little family are relocating. Both my children will
be in the same place at the same time for the first time in
20 years. I know they will be pleased to be together. This
means to see my 2 children and 4 grandchildren I will have
to make a few trips West to keep up with them. (no hardship
I must say)
